Elluminate News: Press Release
Elluminate Expands Product Line with Next-Generation Video Collaboration Solution for Educators
Ground-Breaking Product Provides Best-in-Class Video, Real-Time Collaboration Tools, and Interoperability with Existing Videoconferencing at Affordable Price
Pleasanton, California — April 21, 2009
News Facts:
- Elluminate, Inc. is expanding its role as the leading vendor for live, online communication, collaboration, and education for the academic market with Elluminate VCS™, an affordable, high-quality, multipoint video collaboration solution.
- While there are currently excellent videoconferencing products on the market, Elluminate developed its newest product in response to customer feedback about challenges with some of these offerings. Issues include exorbitant costs, limited scalability, significant hardware requirements, ongoing reliance on IT support, and the inability to invite participants on an ad hoc basis.
- Elluminate VCS leverages these large investments in videoconferencing systems, while increasing ROI through integration and endpoint extension at low cost. In addition, traditional videoconferencing does not provide the ease of use, interactive tools, data sharing, ad hoc invitations, and easy access needed to facilitate a truly collaborative experience for a wide audience.
- The product enables academic institutions, corporations, and other organizations to leverage large investments in legacy videoconferencing infrastructure by including desktop PCs. Primarily a software solution, Elluminate VCS requires a customer premise equipment (CPE) server that operates on exceptionally well on network speeds less than typical DSL connections and works with existing legacy H.323 infrastructure.
- Elluminate VCS extends video endpoints to reach more participants in a significantly more convenient and cost-effective way, adding an interactive collaborative environment that includes intuitive presence awareness, session scheduling, and management tools. Easy to deploy and use, the product includes chat, whiteboard, application and desktop sharing, file transfer, and document presentation.

Quotes for Attribution:
Elluminate VCS offers a viable, low-cost solution for interactive video. We have a number of sites without the people or budget to make traditional H.323 solutions realistic. A product like Elluminate VCS suddenly puts those sites into the game and opens quite an array of possibilities. I’m exploring possibilities with direct-to-the-student video instruction, telehealth/telemedicine consults, and rural dual credit. The sound quality of Elluminate VCS was what first impressed me. Voice quality with minimal delay - who would have ever thought of that!
Mickey Slimp, Executive Director, Northeast Texas Consortium of Colleges & Universities
At Elluminate, we understand that videoconferencing designed for business users doesn’t become video collaboration for educators until it can leverage truly interactive multipoint presentation and data collaboration. At the same time, it must easily bring people into sessions from a variety of locations with limited IT support, and scale at a cost where a critical mass of participants has easy access to the technology on a variety of networks and computers. Today’s educators and students don’t want to choose between real-time interaction and high-quality video. Now they can have both with Elluminate VCS.
