Live eLearning and Web Collaboration Environment Facilitates Training and Collaboration
Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, (August 9, 2006) —
Elluminate, Inc., a leading provider of live eLearning and web collaboration
solutions for the real-time organization, announced today that the Global
Development Learning Network (GDLN), a worldwide partnership of independent
learning centers established by the World Bank, will use Elluminate
Live!®
Academic Edition™ on an experimental basis for training and collaboration
among GDLN Affiliates in selected countries. By applying distance learning tools
and techniques, GDLN Affiliates enable organizations, teams, and individuals
working in development worldwide to communicate, share knowledge and learn from
each other's experiences in a timely and cost-effective manner.
The GDLN team will start using Elluminate
Live! to train over 120 Affiliates
located in 80 countries worldwide on its new Event Management System, an application
used to schedule and coordinate knowledge sharing and learning activities across
the network. In addition, some GDLN Affiliates and their clients are piloting
the use of Elluminate's live eLearning and web collaboration environment. In a
recent learning activity organized by the United Nations Institute for Training
and Research (UNITAR) and the GDLN Center in Kabul, Afghanistan, Elluminate
Live! was used to enhance interactions among participants beyond
videoconference-based discussions, enabling Afghan government officials to interact
online with coaches and mentors in five countries to help build leadership and
management skills.
"Most GDLN Affiliates are located in developing countries, where high-speed Internet
connectivity is not always available," said Atem Ramsundersingh, Head of the GDLN
Secretariat at the World Bank in Washington DC. "We want to learn more about
the extent to which Elluminate provides a reliable low-bandwidth, platform-independent
solution that enables Affiliates and clients to communicate and collaborate with
each other, even those in the most remote areas or secondary cities and towns that
only have access to dial-up connections."
"This is the first time that we enhanced the videoconferences with an online tool,"
said Humaira Kamal, Special Fellow at UNITAR. "The audio-web conference has proved to
be a most wonderful and flexible tool that I think will become more and more important
to the function of the Fellowship."
"We are extremely proud that the Global Development Learning Network is using Elluminate
Live! to increase communication, knowledge sharing, and collaboration on a global
level," said
Maurice Heiblum, President of Elluminate USA, Inc.
"Elluminate
Live! is designed to ensure that no user is left behind, even those
in remote, rural areas or third-world countries where Internet connectivity is less
than optimal."
